Defined Test Conditions

OPUNÉ structures material evaluation around physical, mechanical, thermal and chemical parameters relevant to the intended application. Test selection depends on material construction, conversion method and the performance criteria specified for the finished component.

STANDARDIZED METHODOLOGY

Common Evaluation Rules

Standardized methods provide a common measurement framework. Application acceptance remains dependent on the relevant specification, test configuration and performance threshold.

SPECIFICATION NOTICE

Material performance is measured against defined conditions, not described in general terms. Results from one sample configuration should not be represented as applying automatically to a modified formulation, backing or production batch.

LIVE TEST PROTOCOL CONSOLE

Standardized Testing Bench

Select a standardized test protocol to view its simulation and live telemetry. Each method measures a specific parameter under defined conditions. Values shown are illustrative of the test method, not a specific specimen result.

Tensile and Tear Strength

Tensile testing measures a material's response to controlled tensile loading, while tear testing examines resistance to the propagation of an initiated tear. Methods including ISO 1421 and ISO 4674-1 are applicable to defined coated textile and related material constructions.

BREAKING FORCEELONGATIONTEAR PROPAGATION
Primary parameters: Breaking force, elongation and tear propagation resistance
ISO 5402-1

Flex Endurance

Repeated flex testing evaluates how a material surface and construction respond to cyclic deformation under controlled conditions. ISO 5402-1 provides a method for determining flex resistance in leather and related flexible sheet materials through repeated bending cycles.

SURFACE CRACKINGCOATING INTEGRITYVISUAL CHANGE
Primary parameters: Surface cracking, coating integrity and visual change after flexing
ISO 12947-2

Abrasion Resistance

Martindale abrasion testing provides a controlled method for evaluating resistance to surface wear through repeated rubbing against a specified abrasive medium. ISO 12947-2 defines the procedure for determining specimen breakdown under Martindale abrasion.

SURFACE BREAKDOWNCOATING LOSSWEAR PROGRESSION
Primary parameters: Surface breakdown, coating loss and visual wear progression
ISO 9237

Air Permeability

Air permeability testing measures the rate of airflow passing through a material under specified test conditions. ISO 9237 provides a standardized method applicable to textile fabrics and related porous material constructions.

AIRFLOW RATEPRESSURE ΔSPECIMEN AREA
Primary parameters: Airflow rate, pressure differential and specimen area
VDA 278 / ISO 17071

Volatile Emissions and Fogging

Interior material evaluation may require analysis of volatile and condensable organic emissions under controlled thermal conditions. VDA 278 is used for thermal desorption analysis of organic emissions from non-metallic materials in automotive applications. ISO 17071 specifies methods for determining fogging characteristics of leather used in vehicle passenger compartments.

VOLATILESCONDENSABLESCHEMICAL REPORTING
Primary parameters: Volatile emissions, condensable fractions and application-specific chemical reporting

Telemetry & Quality Assurance

QA // 04 PILLARS
01

From Individual Samples to Traceable Records

Material evaluation requires more than a single test result. OPUNÉ structures technical review around the relationship between material construction, sample identification, conditioning history and measured performance.

Lot identification & batch traceability system
02

Conditioning Before Measurement

Material properties can change with temperature and relative humidity. Conditioning establishes defined environmental conditions before testing where required by the applicable method. A numerical result without its test conditions is incomplete technical information.

Defined thermal & humidity pre-conditioning records
03

Lot-to-Layer Consistency

A multilayer material is assessed as a construction rather than as an isolated surface. Changes in substrate, coating architecture, adhesive interface or formulation can alter the behavior of the finished assembly.

Technical review across complete layer configurations
04

Technical Record Integrity

Lot identification and batch traceability establish a record linking tested specimens to the corresponding material construction to support comparison across development iterations and application-specific evaluation.

Iterative tracking for specification comparison

Application Acceptance Criteria

MATRIX // ACCEPTANCE

How standardized test protocols map to sector-specific application requirements and performance thresholds.

Application SectorPrimary Evaluation FocusAcceptance Criteria Rationale
Luxury Fashion Flex behavior, surface abrasion, tensile response and appearance retention Acceptance criteria reflect the specific component rather than a generic category label after repeated handling
Automotive Interiors Mechanical durability testing alongside emissions and fogging assessment Determined by relevant component specification; test reports identify construction, conditioning, and method used
Footwear Components Flex endurance, tear resistance, tensile behavior and layer adhesion Specification parameters designed around repeated deformation, localized stress, and assembly interaction
High-Traffic Contract Upholstery Repeated abrasion, structural integrity and appearance retention under sustained use Performance thresholds established against intended service classification and procurement specification

Technical Test Request

Define the evidence required for the application. Request laboratory test reports and technical data for quality engineers, testing laboratories and material specifiers.

Review Terms: Technical test requests are reviewed according to the stated material, application and requested evaluation method. Submission of a request does not constitute a commitment to conduct testing, supply material or confirm performance against an external specification. Test data is valid only for the identified specimen, material construction, test method and conditions recorded in the corresponding technical documentation.
