OPUNÉ® develops plant-based biomaterials from agricultural crop residues for packaging and accessory applications where surface material is specified as part of the finished construction.

OPUNÉ® develops material pathways using agricultural crop residues as feedstock. Feedstock origin does not predetermine technical performance; each material configuration requires evaluation against its intended use.

The Finished Object Defines the Requirement

A packaging material cannot be evaluated independently of the process used to convert it. Tooling, substrate, adhesive, folding geometry, and finishing operations alter the behaviour of the final assembly.

Listing an application category represents a material development stream and does not constitute production approval or certification that a particular specification can be achieved.

Material Receiving & Validation

Assess base weight, caliper, surface energy, and visual quality against the agreed project specification. Record applicable lot or batch information where available.

Surface Preparation

Assess surface preparation requirements, including corona treatment or primer application where appropriate. Evaluate surface energy for adhesive or ink compatibility.

Die-Cutting & Scoring

Evaluate die-cutting and score-line creation. Assess fold radius, registration, dimensional tolerance, and edge quality against project requirements.

Evaluate adhesive application, substrate bonding, and edge wrapping. Peel-strength testing may be conducted using ASTM D903 where applicable to the assembly and test objective.

Presentation boxes combine surface material with rigid board structures, wrapped edges, and decorative detailing. Material requirements include conformity around corners, tooling compatibility, and visual consistency across production units.

High Precision

Small-format presentation systems place material surfaces in close proximity to precision objects. Requirements include refined surface character, clean cutting behaviour, edge treatment, and structural lining compatibility.

  • Reference surface-finish criterion: Ra ≤ 1.6 μm
  • Reference die-cut tolerance: ± 0.25 mm
  • Non-abrasive contact requirement to be evaluated for the specified metal, finish, pressure, and use conditions
  • Acid-free / archival requirements to be defined and validated for the intended application

Premium Spirits and Cosmetic Outer Packaging

Moderate Precision

Secondary packaging functions as protection and brand presentation. Material selection involves converting constraints, handling conditions, and the geometry of the finished outer structure.

  • Reference burst-strength criterion: ≥ 400 kPa (ISO 2758), where applicable to the paper or board construction
  • Reference water-absorptiveness criterion: Cobb ≤ 25 g/m² (ISO 535)
  • Reference light-exposure requirement for retail display; project-specific testing required

High Precision

Interior linings contribute directly to the tactile and visual character of a finished accessory or presentation case. Material construction, bonding method, and component interaction are defined prior to production.
